Linda Morell skulle egentlig åpne sin utstilling tidligere i mars, men strenge smitteverntiltak gjorde at den måtte utsettes. Nå kan vi endelig ønske velkommen til åpen utstilling. Kafé Kippers har også åpnet, så det er fint mulig å kombinere kunst og kafé. Se HER for info om serveringen på kaféen.

I 1500-tals verket The Haven of Health beskrivs det hur den mänskliga kroppen påverkas av olika livsmedel och hur de kan användas för att uppnå jämnvikt och hälsa. Texten uppstod under en tid vars syn präglades av humoralpatologin: en lära där kroppen fram till den moderna medicinens genombrott var en epidermal säck med ett flytande innehåll som ständigt behövde balanseras, ett kärl för de fyra elementen.
Gul galla, svart galla, blod och slem samsades inuti ett kroppsligt landskap som omväxlande led av torka, kyla, värme och fukt.
Under 2000-talet kom ordet detox att avse kurer som främjar kroppens renande från inre gifter, så kallade toxiner. Inom rörelsen sägs samtidens aktiva substanser tränga in via magen, huden och luftvägarna och göra kroppen till ett akvarie fullt av kemiska arter som kan rensas ut och balanseras med ritualer och livsmedel. Här blir kroppen återigen en behållare som kräver aktiv rening, en bärare av oklara mekanismer och mystiska funktioner.
Humoralpatologin sträcker sin långa arm in i tvåtusentalet och dess kroppsidé om kärlet lever vidare sida vid sida om medicinen och vetenskapens där de beblandas och skapar nya samtida myter: En kropp med en flytande insida där supermat och nootropics flödar.
Hur kan det nya kroppsliga skalet och dess inre förstås och vilken inverkan har det på den fysiska kroppen?
Utställningen Asclepieia undersöker det hygieniska objektet och ytan, samt det artificiella i relation till det kroppsliga genom verk bestående bland annat av keramik, glas och metall.
Linda Morell
Linda Morell (f.1993) har mastergrad fraKunstakademiet i Bergen 2019 og har i tillegg en bachelor fra Konsthögskolan i Umeå. I sitt kunstnerskap behandler hun kropp og skulptur, og interessen hennes befinner seg i grenselandet der de to overlapper og forenes. Med sine verk undersøker hun emner fra et medisinsk, kulturellt og historisk perspektiv.
Asclepieia er hennes første separatutstilling etter mastereksamen.

The 16th century work The Haven of Health describes how the human body is affected by different foods and how they can be used to achieve equilibrium and health. The text emerged during a time influenced by humoral pathology: a doctrine in which the body until the breakthrough of modern medicine was understood as an epidermal sac filled with a liquid content in need of constant balancing, a vessel of the four elements. Yellow bile, black bile, blood and mucus were gathered inside a bodily landscape suffering of drought, cold, heat and humidity.
In the 2000s, the word detox came to refer to cures that aid the body’s cleansing from toxins. Within the movement, the active substances of today are said to enter through the stomach, skin and lungs making the body into an aquarium inhabited by chemical species that can be cleansed out with rituals and foods. Once again the human body becomes a container requiring purification, a carrier of unclear mechanisms and mysterious functions. Humoral pathology reaches its long arm into the 21st century and its concept of the vessel lives on side by side with medicine and science where they mix and create new contemporary myths of a body with a liquid inside where super foods and nootropics flow. How can this new bodily shell and its inside be understood and what effect does it have on the physical body? The exhibition Asclepieia examines the hygienic object and surface, as well as the artificial in relation to the bodily through works consisting of ceramics, glass and metal.
Linda Morell (b.1993) graduated from The Art Academy in Bergen in 2019 and has previously studied at Umeå Academy of Fine Arts. In her practice she works with body and sculpture and her interest lies in the in-between where the two overlap and merge. Her works explore the subject from a medical, cultural and historical perspective.
Asclepieia is her first solo exhibition after her master’s degree.
