Note: This exhibition opens MONDAY 24 October.------------------------
Gallery USF are proud to announce Arne Ingvaldsens latest monumental installations, Turquoise II. Ingvaldsen is a visual artist and an architect. A recurring subject in his installations I a will to challenge the exhibitionspace. His installations describe a movement that can be poetic, threatening and inviting at the same time. Turquoise II can be seen as a continuation of his 2007 installation Red, which was shown in Gallery USF in 2007. The new installation seems to challenge gravity and balances on the verge of physical possibility.
Gallery USF wil be closed from December 18 2011 because of construction work for the Arena USF project, which will transform the major public areas of USF. It is verey pertinent that Ingvaldsens visual and concrete analysis of the gallery space is the last site specific installation to be shown before the space is transformed.
Arne Ingvaldsen own words about the installation at Gallery USF:
«I work against the concrete locality – against the floor, walls and ceiling.
For some years I have been working with installations as large as rooms. Events against locality often emerge by help of one singular figure. I am interested in the entire space, not the figure in itself.
It can bee seen as autonomous. But that is an illusion.
I try to touch the world. More through objects than with my hands.
They do ather things than i am able to – larger, more precise, more open to strangers.
All that is important is visible, can be presented without words.
Inhabiting space in a way that recognizes it adn ascribes value to it – in a way that feels whole. That is a good feeling.»
Arne Ingvaldsen is educated form Department of Architecure at Trondheim Polytechnic University, Norway (1975), Art Academy of Warsaw (1978), Institute for Color, Trondheim Polytechnic University, Norway (1987) and Bergen Art Academy (1993). He has doen several commissions for Vest-Agder County and City of Bergen. Also several solo shows, projects and collective shows in Norway.
